GREENWOOD, SC – After losing all three doubles matches, 10th-ranked Francis Marion University rallied in singles action but came up just short in a 5-3 loss to 29th-ranked Georgia College, Friday evening (April 20) at the Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Tournament.
Francis Marion, now 10-6, must now wait until Tuesday's announcement of the NCAA Division II Tournament field to see if it will receive an at-large bid. Georgia College (11-7) advances on to Saturday's semifinals.
Although every match was fairly close, the Bobcats swept all three doubles contests, including an 8-5 surprise of FMU's fifth-ranked No.1 duo of Alex Caspari and Gavin Davison.
Caspari (No.1), freshman Jonathan Hain (No.4), and senior Dirk Bair (No.6) earned singles wins, but Georgia College collected straight-set victories at the No.2 and No.5 positions to close out the match.
