WINGATE, NC -- The Francis Marion University men's and women's cross country teams finished second and third respectively at the 2011 Pre-South Atlantic Conference Invitational, hosted by Wingate University on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 13).
The meet concludes Francis Marion's regular-season schedule. The Patriots will compete in the Peach Belt Conference Championship Meet next Saturday (Oct. 22) in Aiken, S.C.
Junior Ian Wallace paced the FMU men with a seventh place showing and a time of 17:26 over the 5,000-meter course. Freshman Justin Koehn finished 10th with a time of 18:01, followed by junior Justin Albertson in 12th (18:14), freshman Justin Carter in 14th (18:31), freshman Alex McIntosh in 16th (18:35), senior Ryan Woloszyn in 17th (18:42), and sophomore Michael Bigelow in 21st (19:18).
Senior Samantha Smith led the Patriot women, finishing the 5,000-meter course in ninth place with a time of 21:55. Sophomore Whitney Wagner was 10th with a time of 22:08, followed by freshman Allyson Franklin in 22nd (25:31), sophomore London Barnhill in 23rd (25:35), and sophomore Diana Levy in 24th (25:39).
The host Bulldogs captured both team titles.
