GREENWOOD, SC - The No. 16-ranked Lander men's tennis team upset
No. 14 Francis Marion 6-3 Friday afternoon in the Peach Belt
Conference opener for both teams at The Joe Cabri Courts.
Lander improves to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the PBC, while Francis
Marion moves to 2-1, 0-1.
In No. 1 singles, 25th-ranked Paul-Henri Arrigoni of Lander,
upset ninth-ranked Oshada Wijemanne, 7-5, 3-6, 6-1, giving Lander
its fifth point and the match. In No. 2 singles, Francis Marion's
17th-ranked Dilshod Sharifi def. Henrik Willers, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. In
other singles matches, No. 3 Levan Clark (LU) def. Karl Rogers
(FMU), 6-1, 6-3; No. 4 Christopher Mattsson (LU) def. Dirk Bair
(FMU), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4; No. 5 Alex Caspari (FMU) def. Pierre Frances
(LU), 6-2, 6-1; and No. 6 Juan Manrique (LU) def. Jack Bishop
(FMU), 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles, FMU's No. 2-ranked team of Sharifi/Wijemanne
defeated Lander's Clark/Frances, 8-3. In other doubles matches, No.
2 Mattsson/Willers (LU) def. Bair/Bishop (FMU), 8-1; and No. 3
Arrigoni/Desmars (LU) def. Caspari/Rogers (FMU), 8-4.
Francis Marion will play host to North Georgia College &
State University on Sunday at 11 a.m.
