Patriots in double figures with a career-high 20 points as Francis
Marion University set a three-game scoring record with a 119-49
defeat of Morris College, Tuesday evening (Nov. 25) in
non-conference women's basketball action.
Francis Marion ups its record to 4-0, while the Hornets drop to
4-5. It was the first meeting between the two in-state
schools since 1990.
Francis Marion will host Erskine College on Saturday at 2 p.m.,
while Morris plays at Southern Polytechnic State on Saturday, also
at 2 p.m.
Over the past three contests, FMU has scored 116, 117, and 119
points to set a new school record for points in a 3-game series
with 352. The old mark of 338 was set last November.
Following Singleton-Bates in the scoring column were junior
Shana Franks with 18, senior Jennifer Dyer 17, senior Kevina Ransom
13, and sophomore Robin Colbert 10. Dyer added eight assists
and six steals, while Ransom tallied eight steals and
Singleton-Bates and senior guard Shaquana Morgan owned team
rebounding honors with seven each.
For the third straight game, every Patriot player in uniform
scored.
Sophomore forward Tyneshia Eaddy led Morris with 16 points,
while Erica Wilkerson added eight points.
The Patriots scored the contest's opening six points and never
trailed. The Hornets trailed by only 10 (25-15) with nine
minutes left in the opening half, but Francis Marion outscored them
39-14 to end the stanza and led 64-29 at intermission.
The Patriots shot 51.1 percent for the game, while holding
Morris to 36.2 percent. FMU forced 55 Hornet turnovers and
converted them in 59 points.
