Francis Marion University athletic officials recently announced that former women’s volleyball player Crystal Poskey Ashley (’02), former women’s soccer standouts Katie Roberts Chapman (‘04) and Kerri Williams (‘00), and former administrator and golf coach Dr. Rufus R. Hackney Jr. are the newest inductees into the FMU Athletic Hall of Fame for 2017.

Williams, a native of Chester, Va., was a forward on the first four Patriot women’s soccer teams from 1995 to 1998.  During her career, she tallied a then school-record 39 goals and 21 assists for a then-record 99 points in 68 matches.  She helped Francis Marion to a four-year mark of 52-17-2, including a 29-4-1 home record, and in only its fourth year the squad went to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

She earned a B.S. degree in chemistry with a minor in mathematics in 2000.

She is currently a chemist with the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) in Virginia Beach, Va., and has been with the company for 15 years.

As a freshman, she registered a hat trick against Mars Hill College and recorded 15 goals and six assists as the Patriots posted an 11-6-0 record.  She helped the 1996 squad to a No.16 national ranking and the 1997 team to a No.19 national ranking.

As a senior, Williams compiled 12 goals and eight assists for a team-high 32 points, was named her team’s MVP, and garnered first-team NSCAA/Umbro Southeast All-Region Team recognition.  FMU finished with a 15-4 record, a No.16 national ranking, and hosted a first-round NCAA National Tournament match.

She was named to the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll in 1998.
