Francis Marion University Athletics

Senior Xavier Schwarz of the Francis Marion University golf team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 16-22.

The native of Virginia Water, Surrey, England, recorded a 12th-place finish at the Elon Phoenix Invitational Tournament hosted by Elon University on Oct. 16-17.  His scorecard included rounds of three-under-par 68, two-under-69, and even-par-71 for a 54-hole total of 208 -- the best 54-hole total of his collegiate career.  He helped lead Francis Marion to a ninth-place showing in the team standings.

His opening-round 68 equaled the lowest round of his collegiate career.  He birdied seven of the first 14 holes and was contending for the first-round lead until the final three holes.  After his afternoon round of 69, he sat with a school-record tying 36-hole total of 137.  He helped FMU to a school-record 274 total during the second round.

Francis Marion will conclude its fall portion of the 2023-24 schedule by competing in the Daniel Island Intercollegiate hosted by Charleston Southern University on Oct. 29-31.
