Sophomore center Jonah Pierce of the Francis Marion University men's basketball team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 27-Jan. 2, 2023.

A 6-8 native of Sanford, Fla., Pierce scored a season-high 22 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds in an 87-75 win over local-rival Coker University on Dec. 30.  He connected on 9-of-11 field goal attempts, while also handing out three assists and blocking two shots.  It marked his third double-double of the year and 13th of his young career.

Francis Marion will return to Conference Carolinas play with a Jan. 4 road game at Lees-McRae College.  FMU then returns home to entertain King University (Tenn.) on Saturday (Jan. 7) at 4 p.m.
