Graduate student midfielder Alvaro Zamora of the Francis Marion University men's soccer team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 31-Nov. 6, 2022.

Zamora, a native of Madrid, Spain, recorded the match-winning goal in a 2-0 win over North Greenville University in the semifinals of the 2022 Conference Carolinas Tournament.  The score came on a bending 19-yard shot in the 51st minute.  He then led the Patriots with six shots, including nearly bending in the tying score on a free kick with 1:18 remaining, in a 1-0 defeat in the title contest.

The four-time first-team All-Conference selection finishes his illustrious career with 21 goals and 14 assists in 64 career matches.

Francis Marion concludes its season with an 8-6-5 record, finishing in a tie for second place during the Conference Carolinas regular season.  The Patriots advanced to the conference tournament championship match for the fourth year in a row.
