Senior forward Lucas Vila of the Francis Marion University men’s soccer program was named the McDonald’s Athlete of the Week for period of Oct. 26-Nov. 1.

Vila, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, totaled six points in a pair of postseason matches, scoring three goals, including two game-winners. On Wednesday night, he scored the opening goal in the 17th minute off a long through ball, as the Patriots captured a 3-0 win over King University in the opening round the league tournament.

On Saturday, he registered a brace after scoring in the 4th minute and netting the game-winner in the 84th minute to secure a 2-1 win at Chowan University in the Conference Carolinas Tournament Quarterfinals.

Francis Marion will face Barton College in the Conference Carolinas Tournament Semifinals on Friday, Nov. 6, at Truist Soccer Complex in Browns Summit, N.C., with the match slated for 3:30 p.m.
