Francis Marion University Athletics

Junior designated player McKenzie Jewell of the Francis Marion University softball team has been named the McDonald’s Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Jan. 26-Feb. 1.

In her first games as a Patriot, the Coral Springs, Fla., native batted .500 with two runs scored, a double, a homer, and four runs batted in as the 10th-ranked Patriots swept a doubleheader from Newberry College.  She also walked once for a .571 on-base percentage and slugged 1.167 to combine for an OPS of 1.738.  In the first game, she went 2-for-3 with the go-ahead 3-run homer.  In game two, she was 1-for-3 with a game-tying RBI-double  as FMU came from behind to win.
