Francis Marion University Athletics

Freshman center Alex Atkinson of the Francis Marion University men's basketball team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Dec.16-22, 2024.

A native of Hopkins, S.C., he averaged 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in two contest during the week..  He connected on 51.9 percent of his field goal attempts and was 8-of-13 at the foul line, while also recording three blocked shots and two assists.

He tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds for first career double-double against Converse University and then scored a career-high 22 points with seven rebounds versus USC Aiken.

Francis Marion is off for the Christmas break and will return to action on Jan. 4 with a Conference Carolinas road game at Southern Wesleyan University at 4 p.m.
