Francis Marion University Athletics

Graduate student midfielder Mario Buelga of the Francis Marion University men's soccer team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Sept. 23-29, 2024.

The native of Gijon, Spain, appeared in both matches last week, and played 168 of a possible 180 minutes.  He recorded seven shots (4 on goal), two goals, and two assists.  He registered a goal and an assist (on the match-winner) in a 2-1 win at Barton College, and then in a 4-1 win at Shorter University, also posted a goal (the match-winner) and an assist.

Buelga helped FMU extend its unbeaten streak to seven matches.

Francis Marion (5-1-2) will play at the University of Mount Olive on Wednesday (Oct. 2) at 7 p.m., before returning home to entertain North Greenville University on Saturday (Oct. 5) at 7 p.m.
