Sophomore left-handed pitcher Alyssa Poston of the Francis Marion University softball team has been named the McDonald's Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Feb. 19-25.

The Hartsville, S.C., native posted a 3-1 record with a 1.57 earned run average in five appearances last week.  She started three games and tossed 22.1 innings, while allowing only 12 hits and five earned runs with 17 strikeouts and no walks.  Opponents batted  only .146 against her.

Her week included a seven-inning no-hitter during a 2-0 win over 14th-ranked Wingate University on Feb. 21.  She struck out five and needed only 84 pitches to complete the game.  She then returned to the circle in the second game of the doubleheader with the Bulldogs and threw 2.1 hitless innings in relief.  She also registered a complete-game (5 inning) two-hit shutout of Georgian Court University on Feb. 25.  She fanned six in the 10-0 victory.

For the season, she owns a 7-1 record with a 2.49 ERA.  She has struck out 43 batters in 53.1 innings, while issuing only seven walks.

Francis Marion, now 13-4, will host nationally ranked Lenoir-Rhyne University for a doubleheader on Wednesday (Feb. 28) at 3 p.m. and then entertain Catawba College for a twinbill on Saturday (March 2) at 1 p.m.
