Francis Marion University Athletics

FMU:  First-year player at FMU....Transfer from Quincy Junior College, where he played the 2021-22 season....Also played two seasons at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pa....A tremendous floor leader and unselfish player....Second in all of college basketball with 9.6 assists a game during the 2021-22 season....Also a good defender on the ball....Brings a wealth of experience to a young and vibrant Patriot squad.

QJC: During his junior year, averaged 15.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 9.6 assists per game for the Granite.....Played and started 21 games, leading the squad to a 19-5 overall record, and earning first-team NJCAA All-Region XXI recognition.

PPU: During the shortened 2020-21 season, averaged 4.2 points for the Pioneers in 13 games....Saw action in 22 contests as a freshman in 2019-20 and tallied 2.1 ppg and 1.0 rpg with 15 assists.

PERSONAL:

• Born Douglas Airan Alves in Taunton, MA
• Attended South Kent Prep School in Connecticut during his post-grad year
• Earned honorable mention All-NEPSAC honors in 2019 after helping South Kent back to the postseason
• Graduate of Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School, where he played for his father Doug Alves
• His father played at High Point University and professionally in Puerto Rico
• Also played for his dad on his AAU team, the Boston Bobcats
• As a senior, averaged 18.7 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and three steals per game
• Became the first player in program history to score 1,000 points
• Named an Old Colony League All-Star three times
• Taunton Daily Gazette All-Scholastic selection three times – including being selected the Brockton the Enterprise High School Boys Basketball Player of the Year in 2018
• Helped lead the Trojans to a South sectional semifinal run during his junior year
• Nickname is Dougy
