Timothy Rodriguez enters his first year as an assistant coach for the Francis Marion University men’s basketball program in 2026-27.
Rodriguez brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to the sport. His journey spans multiple levels of collegiate athletics, from his roots as a player to his current role within NCAA Division II men's basketball. His career is marked by a commitment to player development, team success and strategic leadership, making him a valuable asset to the program.
Rodriguez spent two seasons as a Graduate Assistant coach at The Citadel. He supported the coaching staff in player development, scouting, recruiting, film breakdown and game preparation. His experience across multiple levels of basketball enhances daily operations while contributing to long-term program development. He has worked with players such as Brody Fox, Cameron Glover, Sola Adebisi and Simeon German, whom all went on to play professionally.
Prior to The Citadel, Rodriguez served as an assistant coach at Barry University from fall 2020 through spring 2024. During his tenure, Barry earned an NCAA Division II National Tournament appearance in 2021–22 and advanced to the Sunshine State Conference Championship game in both 2021–22 and 2023–24, falling to eventual national champion Nova Southeastern. Rodriguez helped develop multiple professional-level players, including Landon Kirkwood (35th overall pick in the 2022 NBA G-League Draft), Tyler Hawkins (47th overall pick in the 2025 NBA G-League Draft), and James Montgomery, who signed with the Long Island Nets in 2025 after earning All-SSC First Team honors. He also coached Jake Kakar (All-SSC Second Team, later playing professionally overseas), Nick Anderson (All-SSC Third Team, later All-SoCon Third Team at Furman), and Gabe Hernandez, who transferred to The Citadel at the Division I level.
Rodriguez also served as head coach at Time to Ball Prep from 2018 to 2024, building a respected South Florida program. Over six seasons, he compiled a 146–131 record while establishing a culture centered on high basketball IQ, unselfish play and player development. During his tenure, 42 players advanced to collegiate opportunities across NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and JUCO levels. His players earned multiple all-division honors and went on to compete at various collegiate levels, reflecting his emphasis on preparation and long-term development.
Throughout his coaching journey, Rodriguez has worked alongside NBA-level players, coaches and trainers, including Bill Burgos and Ronnie Taylor. He has trained with and been around professionals such as D’Angelo Russell, an NBA All-Star in 2019, and Luka Garza, who earned All-NBA G-League Third Team honors in 2022.
Rodriguez played college basketball at Albion College (NCAA Division III) in Albion, Michigan.
Rodriguez received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Barry University in 2022. He was a graduate assistant coach at The Citadel, where he earned his master’s degree in business administration in 2026.
He is married to Annahy Salas.
