• Born Carles Thomas Umphlett in Charlotte, N.C.
• A graduate of South Mecklenburg High School, where he plays for coach Brian Hoop
• As a senior, batted .204 with 12 runs scored, 8 RBIs, and a .348 on-base percentage as the Sabers went 20-6
• As a junior, helped the Sabres win the SoMeck 8 Conference Tournament, and was named Tournament MVP
• Batted .263 with 10 runs scored, 16 runs batted in, and a .403 on-base percentage as the Sabres posted a 20-win season
• Tossed a complete game no-hitter for South Mecklenburg during his sophomore campaign
• Has twice been selected to the Perfect Game WWBA All-Tournament Team while playing for the On Deck O’s
• Nickname is Slim
