Lewis "Tag" Montague begins his first year as an assistant coach with the Francis Marion University baseball program.
A veteran coach with over 20 years of experience at the Division I level, he comes to FMU from The Citadel, where he served as a volunteer assistant during the 2022 season.

Montague previously spent the 2021 season as an assistant coach at Ferrum College, and before that was an instructor for the East Coast Baseball Academy in Charleston. He spent six years as an assistant coach at George Mason University, serving as the Patriots’ recruiting coordinator. The Patriots captured the 2014 Atlantic 10 championship and advanced to the Atlantic 10 Tournament championship game in 2018.

His coaching career also includes stints at the University of Richmond, Old Dominion University, Marist College, George Washington University, Virginia Wesleyan University, and Randolph-Macon College. Throughout his career, Montague has coached 50 players that were drafted by the MLB, three All-Americans, five Freshman All-Americans, and two conference Players of the Year.

Montague earned a B.S. degree in physical education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1998. As a member of the Rams' baseball team, he once played all nine positions in a game against Radford University, including earning the save in a 3-0 victory. Prior to attending VCU, he attended Pfeiffer University, where he was the starting shortstop for three seasons -- once earning team Most Valuable Player recognition.
