Jim Leggett is his second season as pitching coach for the Francis Marion baseball program.
In 2017, the Patriots pitching staff ranked fifth in the conference with a 4.46 earned run average and was third in fewest runs allowed.
He came to Florence from within the Peach Belt Conference after serving as pitching coach at Lander University for two seasons. In 2016, his Bearcat staff registered a 3.98 ERA, the lowest in the Peach Belt Conference.
A native of Rocky Mount, N.C., Leggett is a 2014 graduate of East Carolina University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Physical Education.
Leggett graduated from Rocky Mount High School as the program's all-time winningest pitcher with 28 career victories. He was honored as a 3A All-State selection and a three-time All-Conference selection.
Leggett then pitched for Belmont Abbey College was part of the Crusader team that reached the NCAA Division II College World Series in 2009. Leggett then spent two seasons playing at Pitt Community College, where he helped Pitt win two region titles and advanced to the JUCO College World Series in 2010.
As a coach, Leggett served as an assistant on two American Legion teams that reached the North Carolina State Tournament. He also served as a head coach in the Greenville Babe Ruth League for two seasons.
