Francis Marion University athletic officials have announced that
former Patriot cross country and track and field runner
Mark Bedenbaugh and former tennis player
Sam Lundkvist will be the newest inductees into
the FMU Athletic Hall of Fame on March 1, 2003.
Lundkvist played on the Patriot tennis team
from 1994 to 1997 and earned All-America honors three times. In
1997, he also earned Academic All-America recognition, thus
becoming the first Francis Marion athlete to earn both academic and
athletic All-America honors in the same year. Lundkvist earned a
B.B.A. degree in finance and business economics in 1997, and
graduated magna cum laude with a grade point average of 3.87.
He later graduated from the University of South Carolina's Master
of International Business program and now resides in Seattle,
Wash.
Off the playing court, he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Beta
Gamma Sigma, and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies. He
served as vice-president of the FMU International Student
Association and was a member of the Marketing Club and the
Student-Athlete Advisory Board. He served as an FMU Marshal,
twice earned the Patriots Brigade Academic Award, and was named to
the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll each of his four
years.
He helped guide FMU to three NCAA Division II national
tournament appearances, while compiling a 60-30 singles record and
a 58-21 doubles mark. He was named to the
All-Conference team three times and was selected the Patriot team
most valuable player three times. At the conclusion of his
sophomore, junior, and senior seasons, he ranked 16th, 12th, and
20th respectively in the Division II singles rankings.
The Patriots posted a 53-30 mark during his four years.
