FERRUM, VA - It was a historic day for graduate student forward
Tehya Dave' as Francis Marion University delivered a dominant 7-0 shutout victory over Ferrum College on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 30) in women's soccer league play at Penn-Roediger Field. The Patriots erupted for four goals in just 6 minutes and 56 seconds in a second-half frenzy.
With this victory, the Patriots (7-3, 5-1) have delivered a fourth-straight clean sheet and posted a +20 goal differential over the last four matches. Ferrum falls to 2-7 overall, 0-6 in Conference Carolinas play.Â
Francis Marion returns to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 3, as it travels to Lees-McRae for a conference matchup slated to start at 11:00 a.m.
Dave' continues to etch her name in the FMU record book as she becomes the seventh player to score 30 career goals. She currently has 81 points (30 G, 21 A), making her sixth in all-time career points at Francis Marion. Dave' is tied for seventh place in all-time career assists after tallying three in today's match.Â
Key offensive contributions came from Dave', who recorded one goal and three assists, while sophomore forward
Matea Bradfield and junior forward
Nalani Hunt each netted a brace. Both Dave' and Bradfield accomplished their totals in just 51 minutes of action, while N. Hunt scored twice in only 39 minutes off the bench. The dynamic duo of Dave' and Bradfield is tied for the team lead with 25 points. Bradfield also reached double-digit goals (10) following the victory over the Panthers.
The Patriots opened the scoring in entertaining fashion at the 8:20 mark, as Dave' nutmegged a Panther before finding Bradfield inside the box. Bradfield's initial shot was denied by the keeper, but she quickly recovered the rebound and fired it into the bottom-left.
Freshman forward
Ryleigh Ackermann found N. Hunt in the closing minutes of the half, where she drew out Ferrum's keeper and eventually scored in the 44th minute.
Dave' sparked the Patriots' four-goal surge at the 46:22 mark after sophomore midfielder
Georgia-Allen Aaron found her inside the box. Dave' drew the keeper to her left before using her quick footwork to change direction and slot the ball into the center of the net.
Junior forward
Isabella Fregoso charged down the right sideline and controlled the pace before sending it to Bradfield, where she beat the keeper at 50:16.Â
FMU heightened the issue one minute later thanks to Bradfield and Dave' keeping Ferrum's backline occupied. This gave junior forward
Chloe Pfaff the chance to get into scoring position, where she scored into the bottom-left corner for her fourth goal of the year.
At the 53:18 mark, graduate student midfielder
Camryn Bliss netted her first career goal with the Patriots following an assist by Dave' while the Panthers were on their heels.Â
N. Hunt delivered the final goal in the 81st minute, where she was assisted once again by Ackermann.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Emma Erickson started for the Patriots (50 minutes) while senior goalkeeper
Erin Grabeel finished the match, playing nearly 40 minutes. Both keepers recorded two saves apiece.Â
Francis Marion held a 13-1 edge over Ferrum in corners. FMU also had a striking 27-9 shot advantage.
