GREENVILLE, SC – Francis Marion University graduate student duo of midfielder Filippo Noseda and goalkeeper Vicent Sanchis were selected as the Conference Carolinas men's soccer Player and Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 27-30.

Noseda, a native of Figino Serenza, Italy, tallied three points (one goal, one assist) in his debut week with the Patriots. As a team, Francis Marion (1-0-1) went unbeaten with a 1-1 tie against No. 15 ranked Flagler College before posting a 2-0 victory over Coker University.

In the season-opener on Thursday (Aug. 27), Noseda delivered an assist in a critical second-half goal for the Patriots in a draw versus the Saints. On Sunday night (Aug. 30), he netted the eventual game-winner in the third minute of the match in a 2-0 win against the Cobras.

A 6-foot-2 graduate student goalkeeper, Sanchis posted an .889 save percentage and a 0.50 goals-against average in two matches in his debut week with the program.

Against Flagler on Thursday evening, Sanchis made four total saves on nine shots faced, including three stops in the second half in a 1-1 draw against the Peach Belt Conference preseason favorites.

On Sunday night versus Coker, he produced his first clean sheet with Francis Marion after tallying four saves on 10 shots faced in a 2-0 win. Sanchis made an outstanding penalty save in the opening minutes of the first half to seal the shutout.

FMU closes out a three-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon (3 p.m.) as the Patriots with face Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.), the preseason favorite in the Gulf South Conference (GSC). The Patriots will begin Conference Carolinas play on Saturday, Sept. 5, with a road matchup at Chowan University at 7 p.m.

Noseda is pursuing a master's degree in business administration and is a product of Liceo Scientifico Sant'Elia. Sanchis is also in the MBA program and is a graduate of IES El Puig.
