FLORENCE, SC – Sophomore
Miguel Maia provided a pair of clinching points to lead Francis Marion University to a 7-0 victory over visiting Barton College, Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 7) in Conference Carolinas men's tennis action.
Francis Marion improves to 6-9 overall and evens its conference mark at 4-4. The Patriots will celebrate Senior Day with a 2 p.m. match against Ferrum College on Friday.
FMU swept all three doubles matches with sophomores
Diego Vega Espinosa and
Adrian Calvo Guerrero winning 6-0 at the third spot, Maia and freshman Viktor Viraghalmi winning 6-1 at the second spot, and freshman
Boris van Ruiten and junior
Alexandre Frigout winning 6-4 at the top position.
Patriot senior
Niklas Plath upped the margin to 2-0 with a quick 6-0, 6-1 victory at No.6 singles. Freshman
Koldo Zuniga followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No.5 singles, before Maia claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No.1 spot to clinch the match with a 4-0 advantage.
The other Francis Marion wins came from van Ruiten (6-0, 2-6, 6-3) at No.2 singles, Vega Espinosa (6-2, 6-1) at No.5 singles, and Viraghalmi (6-3, 6-2) at No.3 singles.
