Orr collects conference weekly award for second time

FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University senior first baseman Riley Orr was named the Conference Carolinas baseball Player of the Week for the week of April 20-26. It marks the second time this season he has been recognized by the league office.

Orr, a native of Maryville, Tenn., produced a .611 batting average (11-for-18) with four extra-base hits, seven runs batted in, and three runs scored, as the No. 6 Patriots posted a 3-1 record. He recorded a .944 slugging percentage and a .650 on-base percentage in 18 at-bats.

On Tuesday night, he finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and three runs batted in against USC Aiken in a non-conference regional matchup.

In a three-game series sweep at King, Orr went 9-for-14 with four RBIs, one double, two triples, and three runs scored. He tallied a pair of hits with one run scored in Game 1 before going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs batted in and one run scored in Game 2. In the final game of the series, Orr registered three hits, including a triple, with one RBI and one run scored.

Orr ranks fifth in NCAA Division II with 75 runs batted in and 16th in runs scored with 66. He also sits 12th in the country this season with 22 hit-by-pitches. Orr is tied for the team lead with 22 multi-RBI performances, including 12 games with at least three runs batted in.

Francis Marion, now 40-10, continues to rank among the top-15 in all three national polls, including sitting No. 7 in the ABCA rankings and No. 8 in the D2 Baseball poll. The Patriots begin their journey in the Conference Carolinas Tournament on Thursday, April 30, against the winner of Erskine College/Southern Wesleyan University. The opening round game will be played at 3 p.m. at CaroMont Health Park in Gastonia, N.C.

Orr is majoring in sport management and is a product of Maryville High School.
