Owen Powell was selected as the Conference Carolinas baseball Freshman of the Month for the month of February.
Powell, a native of Georgetown, S.C., posted a 2-0 record on the mound with a 2.25 ERA over 20.0 innings pitched. In his four appearances with two starts, he surrendered five earned runs on 17 hits with 13 strikeouts. Additionally, Powell collected Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 9-15.
This month, he pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief with one strikeout at USC Aiken on Feb. 3. The following week, Powell earned the win after tossing 7.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen while surrendering five hits with five strikeouts versus Coker. On Feb. 17, he allowed three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings in his first collegiate start against Lander. Powell collected his second win of the season on Feb. 24 at Newberry after yielding two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts in 5.1 frames of work.
Powell owns a 3.05 ERA over 20.2 innings pitched in five appearances while holding opponents to a .241 batting average this season.
No. 21-ranked Francis Marion started a three-game series at Barton College on Friday (March 6) in Conference Carolinas play. The Patriots will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 7, with the first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. FMU returns to Sparrow Stadium on Tuesday (March 10) for a non-conference matchup with Catawba College at 5 p.m.
Powell is majoring in supply chain management and economics and is a product of Georgetown High School.
