FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University sophomore
Miguel Maia won in straight sets at No.1 singles, but the Patriots dropped a 5-2 decision to the University of Mount Olive, Wednesday afternoon (March 18) in Conference Carolinas men's tennis play.
Francis Marion (3-6, 1-2) will host 26th-ranked Lander University on Thursday (March 19) at 2:30 p.m.
Mount Olive (3-4, 2-0) won the third and first doubles matches by 6-2 and 6-4 scores to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 advantage. Maia and freshman Viktor Viraghalmi did earn a 7-5 victory at No.2 doubles.
The Trojans upped their margin to 3-0 with identical 6-3, 6-3 wins at the No.5 and No.2 singles positions. Maia brought Francis Marion to with 3-1 with his 6-4, 6-3 victory at the top singles spot.
However, Mount Olive claimed a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) decision at No.3 singles to clinch the match.
The Patriots' other point came from Viraghalmi at No. No.4 singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win.
