Francis Marion University senior shortstop
Madalyn White and senior right-hander
Jenna Walling have been named the Conference Carolinas softball Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively, for the week of Feb. 9-15.
A native of Currie, N.C., White batted .591 (13 for 22) in six games last week, as FMU went 6-0. She scored nine runs, and registered three doubles, a triple, and two runs batted in, to go along with a .609 on-base percentage from the leadoff spot in the Patriot line-up. She also stole two bases in three attempts.Â
Defensively, she recorded seven putouts and seven assists, while not committing an error. She was also a part of a triple play against Ferris State University on Feb. 13.
White went 4-for-9 with four runs scored in a road sweep of Coker University. In the Swamp Fox Sizzler tournament, she was 6-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBIs in a sweep of Ferris State on Feb. 13, and then went 3-for-7 with two runs scored as FMU beat Ferris State and Tusculum University on Feb. 14.
She has hit safely in 29 of her last 30 games and has reached base safely in 30 straight contests dating back to last season. She is also tied for the most career hits (253) by a Patriot with Shannon Tyson, who played between 2006 and 2009. White was named a second-team All-American in 2025.
A native of Johns Island, S.C., Walling posted a 4-0 mark in four circle appearances with a 0.32 ERA. She allowed only 12 hits and one earned run in 21.2 innings of work, while striking out 17 and walking no one. Opponents batted only .158 against her. At the plate, she hit two homers and drove in six runs, including a walk-off two-run homer to beat Ferris State on Feb. 14.
Her week included beating Coker 6-0 with 2-hit shutout that saw her fan nine batters. She beat Ferris State 10-2 on Feb. 13 with a 6-hitter when she allowed no earned runs and had four strikeouts, while hitting a three-run home run at the plate. On Feb. 14, she beat Ferris State 5-3 in relief after hitting a walk-off 2-run homer and then she beat Tusculum 5-1 with a 3-hitter and four strikeouts.
With her win at Coker, she became only the third pitcher in program history to reach 60 career wins. Â Now with 63 wins, she is only one shy of tying Amy Birch (2000-03) for second on the career wins list.
Walling was last season's Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athlete of the Year for softball, as well as earning All-Region and All-Conference accolades for her play on the field.
The Patriots, now 9-1, moved up four positions to sixth in this week's National Fast-Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA)/GoRout NCAA Division II Top 25 coaches poll. Â FMU will host Catawba College for a doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m., before hosting the Patriot Invitational Tournament on Saturday and Sunday with three games each day.
White is majoring in biology and healthcare administration and is a product of Heide Trask High School. Walling has already earned her undergraduate degree and is part of the MBA graduate program at FMU. She is a product of First Baptist School.
