MILLS SPRINGS, NC – Sophomore
Aukeyonna Sims established an NCAA Provisional mark and broke her school record in the high jump, as Francis Marion University competed at the Tryon Banked Invitational indoor track and field meet on Friday (Jan. 30).
The Patriots are idle for two weeks before continuing the indoor campaign at the Mid-Winter Collegiate Invite hosted by Tryon International.
Sims, a product of Darlington High School, reached an NCAA Provo mark and set a new program record in the high jump after clearing 1.68 meters to claim the victory. She finished ahead of multiple Division I competitors while setting the 25th-best mark in the country at the NCAA Division II level. The new career-best mark for Sims surpasses her previous record of 1.62 meters.
Additionally, in the long jump, Sims set a Conference Carolinas qualifying mark and placed 12th after hitting a distance of 5.33 meters, which ranks fourth in the league this season.
Senior Ryan Hunter reached the conference qualifying standard in the 200 meters after crossing the line with a season-best time of 22.16 to finish 14th overall.
