Patriots blast Bulldogs 67-42

WILSON, NC – Sophomore guard Kiara Croskey scored eight of her game-high 22 points in a decisive third quarter as Francis Marion University raced to a 67-42 road victory over Barton College, Tuesday evening (Jan. 13) in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action.
 
Francis Marion improves to 8-7 overall and 5-2 in conference play, while remaining unbeaten in the East Division at 4-0.  FMU will travel to Emmanuel (Ga.) University on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip-off.  The next home game for the Patriots will be an afternoon  MLK Day match-up with Ferrum College on Monday at 2 p.m.
 
Croskey connected on 9-of-16 field goal attempts and grabbed six rebounds.  Three other Patriots also scored in double figures: junior Uriah Jennings registered 12 points and four steals, junior center Jasmine Grant recorded 11 points and eight rebounds, and sophomore Terriana Gray tallied 10 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists for her third double-double in the last five contests.
 
Celeste Bailey led Barton (8-7, 4-3) with 13 points.
 
Barton scored the game's opening basket, but the Patriots answered with 13 consecutive points – eight by Grant – and never trailed again.  FMU led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter.
 
The Bulldogs pulled within 20-15 in the second period, but Croskey and Jennings combined for a 10-3 spurt that resulted in a 30-18 advantage.  Barton scored the first half's final six points to cut the margin to 30-24 at halftime.
 
Francis Marion outscored the Bulldogs 21-7 in the third quarter, led by Croskey, to take command with a 20-point lead (51-31).
 
FMU junior guard MacKenzie Feagin hit a three-pointer to open the fourth period and the Bulldogs got no closer than 19 points for the remainder of the game.
 
The Patriots forced 25 turnovers which were converted into 29 points.
 
Francis Marion connected on 41.4 percent of its field goal attempts, including 5-of-20 from three-point distance, and was a near perfect 14-of-16 at the free throw stripe.  Barton was held to 33.3 percent shooting and managed to make only 9-of-21 free throw attempts.
