FMU Baseball Team honored for classroom work

The Francis Marion University baseball program has earned an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award presented by Sports Attack for the 2024-25 school year.

The ABCA recognized 440 member college programs nationwide, including 88 at the NCAA Division II level.  This award honors ABCA member teams from all levels of high school and collegiate baseball that achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the 2024-25 academic year.

Under the direction of first-year head coach Jeff Jefferson, the Patriot squad registered a 3.164 team GPA for the year.  On the field, Francis Marion posted a 40-13 record, its best campaign since 2012, and captured a share of the Conference Carolinas regular-season crown.

The baseball program is one of 10 FMU sports that garnered an academic team award this year.

The ABCA has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.

Sports Attack, founded in 1995 in Reno, Nev., manufactures quality sports training equipment.
