Francis Marion University sophomore first baseman Charlie Bussey III has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Southeast Region Player of the Week, for the week of April 28-May 4, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon (May 6).

A native of Graniteville, S.C., he hit .538 (7-for-13) across three games in the Conference Carolinas Tournament with five runs scored, four home runs, and 10 runs batted in.  He slugged a whopping 1.462 with a .625 on-base percentage.

This is the second Bussey III has earned NCBWA Southeast Region Player of the Week recognition this season (previously on Feb. 25).

Bussey III advances to NCBWA National Player of the Week consideration, which releases on Thursday.

This season, he helped lead Francis Marion to a 40-13 record, a current No.25 national ranking, and a share of the Conference Carolinas regular-season crown.

Bussey III leads Conference Carolinas in batting (.437), slugging (.721), on-base percentage (.545) and OPS (1.266) and ranks second in hits (83) and RBIs 65.  He scored 65 runs in 52 games and registered 19 doubles and 11 home runs and was successful on 15-of-22 stolen base attempts.

He was named the conference's Player of the Year for 2025.

Bussey III is a sports management major and a graduate of Aquinas High School.
