SUMTER, SC – Seventh-seeded Francis Marion University dropped a 4-0 decision to sixth-seeded Young Harris College, Friday morning (Apr. 25) in a first-round match of the 2025 Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Tournament.
 
Francis Marion ends its season with an 8-9 record.  The Mountain Lions (9-14) advance to the quarterfinal round later on Friday at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
 
The match started on Thursday, but was suspended because of rain and resumed at 8 a.m. on Friday.  Young Harris claimed the doubles point and a 1-0 lead by winning 6-1 at the No.1 position and 7-5 at the No.3 spot.
 
FMU freshman Valery Gomez retired due to an injury in the second set at No.4 singles extending the Young Harris lead to 2-0.  The Mountain Lions then clinched the match with straight-set victories at the No.5 and No.2 positions.
 
FMU freshman Lara Lanno was up a set at No.1 singles when the match was stopped, while freshman Maia Warlies was leading in a third set at No.6 singles.
 
Patriot seniors Sophia Hansen and Kim Venghaus concluded their playing careers.
