FLORENCE, SC – Four seniors combined for five wins to lift Francis Marion University to a 7-0 victory over Chowan University, Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 2) in Conference Carolinas men's tennis play
 
Francis Marion, now 8-5 overall and is 4-2 in conference play, will travel to Lees-McRae College on Tuesday (Apr. 8) for a 1 p.m. match.  That match was originally set for Friday, but moved due to forecasted wet weather.
 
In doubles play, Francis Marion swept all three matches to claim a 1-0 advantage. Seniors Harri Lloyd-Evans and Austin Vienna were victorious 6-4 at the No.2 position and senior Martin Barbera and freshman Miguel Maia won at the top spot, also by a 6-4 decision.
 
Patriot freshmen Diego Vega Espinosa and Adrian Calvo Guerrero completed the sweep with a hard-fought 7-5 win at the No.3 position.
 
In singles action, Maia was the first Patriot to finish after his opponent retired with an injury after Maia won the opening set 6-2 at the No.2 spot.  Vega Espinosa won the No.6 match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 and Lloyd-Evans registered the match-clinching point – for the second straight match – with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the No.3 position.
 
Junior Rodrigo Moura Ludgero claimed a come-from-behind 6-7 (2-7), 6-0, 1-0 (10-3) win at No.4 singles, while Barbera won at the top sport 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 and senior Luis Lopez Sarasa earned a 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 victory at No.5.
 
Lloyd-Evans, Maia, and Vega Espinosa all have nine singles wins in 13 matches this season to pace the Patriots.
