FLORENCE, SC – Young Harris College rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win three straight singles matches en route to a 4-3 victory over Francis Marion University, Saturday afternoon (Apr. 12) in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action.
 
Francis Marion (6-8, 4-4) will play its final regular-season match on Wednesday when the Patriots host the University of Mount Olive at 2 p.m. on the Kassab Courts.
 
FMU took an early 1-0 advantage by capturing the doubles point.  After Young Harris won at the No.1 position, the Patriots rallied with two wins.  Senior Sophia Hansen and freshman Fatima Hernandez Huerta were victorious 6-4 at the No.2 spot and senior Kim Venghaus and freshman Maia Warlies came out on top in a tiebreaker at the No.3 slot 7-6 (7-4).
 
Both Hansen and Venghaus were honored later in a Senior Day ceremony.
 
After the Mountain Lions knotted the match at 1-1 with a victory at No.2 singles, Patriot freshman Lara Lanno captured a 6-3, 6-4 decision at the No.1 position to regain the lead for FMU.
 
However, Young Harris then won at No.5 in three sets, at No.3 in three sets, and in straight sets at No.4 to decide the outcome.
 
Venghaus accounted for the other Francis Marion point with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No.6 singles to finish the match.
