YOUNG HARRIS, GA – Junior guard
Jordan Simpson paced Francis Marion University with a career-high equaling 28 points, six steals, and five assists, but FMU's season came to an end with a 97-92 loss to the University of Mount Olive, Sunday night (March 2) in the first round of Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Tournament.
The Patriots finish their season with an overall mark of 10-19.

Horaces Jacques Jr. chipped in 20 points, while connecting on 8-of-16 shots from the floor. Junior forward
Jordyn Surratt registered 15 points, while senior forward
Ibrahim Wattara tallied his second double-double with 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
Chase Dawson paced Mount Olive (12-17) with 29 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free throw line.
Francis Marion led Mount Olive 8-5 in the opening minutes of the first half before the Trojans took the lead at the 13:09 mark with a jumper from Dawson. Two back-to-back baskets for Simpson allowed the Patriots to overtake UMO 17-16, before the Trojans used a four-point run to go ahead 20-17.
Despite Wattara converting a three-point play and knotting the score at 20-20, Mount Olive used a 11-point spurt to get in front for good 31-20.
Patriot freshman forward
Alex Atkinson battled through three defenders to snap the Trojans run and bring the Patriots back within single digits at 31-22.
With 4:22 left on the clock, Francis Marion trailed 41-32. Mount Olive held on to its lead for the rest of the first half, using it to finish the half ahead 49-40.
The Patriots opened the second half with a seven-point spurt that put FMU within four points of UMO at 51-47. Francis Marion trailed by three, 55-52, at the 15:54 mark after a three-point play by Simpson.
The Trojans scored 11 of the next 14 points, interrupted only by a long-range three drained by FMU junior forward
Latavian Lawrence, to assume a 66-55 advantage.
Mount Olive led by 15 points on several occasions, including 90-75 with 3:55 left. A three-pointer by Simpson capped a frantic 15-6 flurry by the Patriots that cut the deficit to 96-90 with 40 seconds left. FMU forced a turnover on the ensuing possession, but then turned it right back over and UMO held on for the win.
Francis Marion outrebounded the Trojans 45-28 and led in second-chance points 25-4.
