Diego Vega Espinosa each contributed two wins as Francis Marion University opened Conference Carolinas play with a 5-2 win over Shorter University, Friday afternoon (March 14) in men's tennis action.
Francis Marion improves to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Patriots will play at Barton College on Tuesday (March 18) at 2 p.m.
In doubles play, freshman
Adrian Calvo Guerrero and Vega Espinosa were victorious 6-1 at the No.3 position. After Shorter won the No.1 doubles match 6-3, senior
Austin Vienna teamed with Lloyd-Evans for a 6-4 win at the No.2 spot that gave the doubles point to FMU for a 1-0 advantage.
In singles action, Lloyd-Evans upped the margin to 2-0 with 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No.3 position. Vega Espinosa was victorious at No.5 singles by a 6-4, 6-0 decision, while senior
Martin Barbera provided the match-clinching point with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the top spot.

Miguel Maia accounted for the other FMU point with 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 win at No.2 singles.
