FLORENCE, SC – The Francis Marion University women's tennis team lost its season opener 6-1 to visiting Newberry College on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 8), spoiling the debut of first-year Patriot head coach Laszlo Leiter.
 
FMU will travel to Augusta University on Monday (Feb. 10) for a 1 p.m. match.
 
The Wolves swept all three doubles matches and earned wins at singles spots No. 1, 3, and 4 to take a 4-0 advantage.
 
Francis Marion freshman Lara Lanno narrowed the gap to 4-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No.2 singles, but Newberry won in straight sets at positions No.5 and 6 to clinch the decision.
