Croskey and Adams lead Patriots to 93-50 win and top seed

TIGERVILLE, SC – Freshman guard Kiara Croskey and junior Trinity Adams combined for 43 points to lead Francis Marion University to a 93-50 road win at North Greenville University, Wednesday evening (Feb. 26) in both team's Conference Carolinas regular-season finale.
 
Francis Marion improves to 22-5 with its ninth straight win.  The Patriots, co-champions of the East Division, finished conference play 17-3 and secure the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament.  FMU will receive a bye to the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.
 
The Patriots are the top school among the other teams receiving votes in this week's D2CSC Division II Top 25 poll.
 
Croskey scored a team-high 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting and tallied seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals.  Adams registered 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting and recorded 10 rebounds and four assists.  Nineteen of her points came in the opening half.
 
Seniors Kennedi Simmons and Jada Richards each pumped in 14 points.
 
Grace Ikenegbu and Abi Oates each scored 11 points to pace North Greenville (6-20, 6-14).
 
Francis Marion erased an early 4-2 deficit with a 9-0 spurt that put the Patriots ahead to stay.  After an NGU bucket, FMU produced a second 9-0 run to lead 20-6.  The margin stood at 23-11 at the end of the first quarter.
 
Adams scored six points in a 9-1 spurt to close the second period as the Patriots carried a 46-24 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
 
The Patriots led 71-39 at the end of the third quarter, and the final score represented the largest margin as freshman guard Deana Epps drained a three-pointer with 33 ticks left.
 
FMU outrebounded the Trailblazers 46-18 and held a commanding 28-5 edge in second-chance points.  The Patriots also led 16-2 in fast-break points and 16-6 in points-off-turnovers.
 
Francis Marion shot 47.2 percent from the floor, including 11-of-31 from beyond the three-point arc, and was 14-of-19 at the free throw line.  NGU was held to 38.3 percent shooting and was only 9-of-19 at the charity stripe.
