Ian Milla has been selected as the Conference Carolinas men's soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 27-Nov. 2. It is the second time this season he has garnered this weekly award.
A native of Geiselwind, Germany, Milla played all 180 minutes of FMU's two matches last week allowing only one goal and registering six saves. He posted three saves in a 1-1 draw with Lenoir-Rhyne University on Oct. 29 and made three saves in a 0-0 road tie at Chowan University on Nov. 1 that gave FMU the outright East Division championship and the top seed in the conference tournament. It was his fourth shutout in eight starts this season.
Milla leads the conference in goals against average (0.625), ranks second in save percentage (.853), and is sixth in saves per match (3.63) and shutouts.
Francis Marion enters the Conference Carolinas Tournament as the top seed with an 8-3-5 record. The Patriots will host a quarterfinal match on Saturday (Nov. 8) at 6:30 p.m. against the (#8) Lees-McRae College/(#9) Belmont Abbey College winner.
Milla is majoring in sports management and is a product of Alexander von Humboldt Schule.
