FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – Francis Marion University fell to Emmanuel University (G.A.) in both games of Saturday's (March 30) Conference Carolinas baseball doubleheader, dropping game one 4-0 and falling 11-2 in game two.
Francis Marion (13-19, 6-12) hosts Claflin University on Tuesday (Apr. 2) for an out-of-conference match up in Sparrow Stadium. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
In game one, junior shortstop
Peyton Wilson and senior third baseman
Blake Falor were the only two Patriots to tally a hit.
Emmanuel (20-14, 9-8) recorded its first run in the bottom of the third inning when Ryan Muniz crossed home plate. The Lions posted an additional three runs in the next inning to take a 4-0 lead as catcher Nick Dietsch homered with two abroad.
Junior right-handed hurler
Danny Leo (0-2) picked up his second loss as Emmanuel's Hunter Pirkle (3-1) claimed his third win.
In the second contest, junior second baseman
Owen Taylor and sophomore shortstop
Peyton Starkey posted two hits apiece to lead the Patriots. Starkey and junior catcher
Hunter Looper both drove in one run.
Emmanuel jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Both teams went scoreless for the third and fourth innings.
Francis Marion plated its first run as Starkey singled back to the pitcher to score Taylor trimming the lead to 2-1. The Lions scored an additional nine runs over the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to go up 11-1.
Taylor began the top of the ninth inning with a double to left field and was followed up by senior right fielder Alex Elliot who singled to shortstop. Looper singled to third base and plated Taylor to account for the final run.
Sophomore right-hander
Josh Adams (2-3) was the loser despite allowing only three runs on seven hits over six innings. Emmanuel's Ethan Pooler (1-3) picked up his first win of the 2024 season.
