Box Score 2 WILSON, NC – The Francis Marion University baseball team dropped both games to Barton College by scores of 4-2 (game one) and 7-2 (game two) on Sunday (March 17) in conference action. The Patriots move to an overall record of 13-12 and 6-6 in Conference Carolinas league action.

Francis Marion will return to the field to play a single game against Wingate University on Tuesday (March 19) in Sparrow Stadium. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.

Senior left fielder
Zack Summerville paced the Patriots with three hits, including one home runs in game one.

Francis Marion took an early 1-0 lead over Barton (22-5, 7-5) with a home run to right-center from Summerville. Both teams then went scoreless for the second and third innings before Barton tallied its first two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Bulldogs posted an additional two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Barton's Salvatore Laimo doubled and Tanner Halvorson homered to left field to drive in two runs for a 4-1 lead.

FMU closed the gap in the top of the sixth as Summerville hit his second home run of the day.

Josh Adams takes a record of 2-1 after the loss to Barton, while Halvorson moves to a clean 6-0 record.

In game two, junior designated hitter
Noah Stout recorded two hits and one home run for Francis Marion. Four other Patriots tallied one hit apiece.

In the top of the second inning, junior second baseman
Owen Taylor doubled down the right-field line. Taylor was advanced to third base as Stout grounded out to first. Junior first baseman
Kollin Crepeau plated Taylor with a groundball to second base for a 1-0 lead.

Barton quickly tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning. The Bulldogs then went on to score six unanswered runs between the third and seventh innings, expanding their lead to 7-1.

Francis Marion posted the final run of the game in the top of the eighth inning with Stout's home run, a deep shot over the fence in right-center.

Matt Rivers of Barton claimed the win and evened his record at 2-2 as junior right-handed hurler
Tyson Hall (2-1) took the loss for FMU.
