FLORENCE, SC – Senior outfielder Zach Summerville led Francis Marion University with three runs scored, three hits, and three runs batted in as the Patriots took down Emory & Henry College 11-2, Friday evening (Feb. 9) in non-conference baseball action.
 
The three-game series will conclude on Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. in FMU's Sparrow Stadium.
 
FMU junior designated hitter Noah Stout, junior first baseman Kollin Crepeau, and junior catcher Nick LaVigne all tallied two hits apiece. Junior infielders Peyton Wilson and Owen Taylor, junior outfielder Tanner Cannon, and senior third baseman Blake Falor posted one hit. Five Patriots recorded a double as FMU outhit the Wasps 13-7.
 
The first three inning went scoreless for both teams as Patriot senior left-handed pitcher Chas DeBruhl (1-0) retired all nine Wasps batters in order.
 
Crepeau drove in the first run of the evening with a single up the middle that plated Summerville in the bottom of the fourth inning.
 
Francis Marion (3-1) went on to score six runs in the fifth inning to extend the margin to 7-0.  The inning was highlighted by a two-run single by Summerville and a three-run double by Taylor.  
 
Tyler Bradley brought home the first run for Emory & Henry with an infield ground ball, but DeBruhl retired right fielder Jermie Green shortly after to close out the top of the sixth inning and keep the Patriots ahead by six runs.
 
With Wilson in scoring position for FMU after a single to the Wasp's shortstop and an ensuing throwing error, Summerville traded places with an RBI-double to put FMU up 8-1.  Stout followed with another RBI-double and later Crepeau singled home the Patriots' 10th run.
 
In the bottom of the seventh inning, LaVigne homered deep over the left field wall to up the margin to 11-1.
 
DeBruhl went six innings and allowed only one run on four hits with four strikeouts. Senior right-handed hurler Danny Leo pitched the final three innings to earn a save. 
 
Emory & Henry starter Zach Clover (0-2) was tagged with the loss as the Wasps fell to 0-4.
