Mountain Lions claw Patriots 95-66

FLORENCE, SC – Junior forward Jordyn Surratt led Francis Marion University with 19 points, four rebounds, and three steals, but the Patriots fell 95-66 to Young Harris College on Saturday (Nov. 30) afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's basketball play.
 
Francis Marion (3-5, 1-1) will travel to Columbus, Ga., to compete in a road contest against Columbus State University on Tuesday (Dec. 2) evening at 6 p.m.
 
Surratt connected on 7-of-11 field goal attempts and was 5-of-6 at the free throw line, while registering three steals.  Also scoring in double digits on 5-of-10 shooting from the field was FMU junior guard Ibrahim Wattara as he chipped in 14 points. Junior guard Jordan Simpson contributed 13 points as he drained 3-of-6 shots from behind the three-point line.
 
Sophomore guard Horaces Jacques Jr. scored five points and led the Patriots with five assists coming off the bench.
 
Young Harris's (5-2, 2-0) Cole Deptula paced the Mountain Lions with 21 points and Morgan Rashed tallied 13 points and a game-high seven assists.
 
In the opening half, Francis Marion registered the first bucket and held a brief 9-3 lead.  Young Harris scored eight straight points, but Surratt knotted the score at 11-1on a fast-break lay-in with 11:30 left before halftime.  A 10-0 run by the Mountain Lions resulted in a lead they would never relinquish.  
 
The Mountain Lions continued to widen the margin, leading 41-27 at halftime.
 
In the opening minutes of the second half, Young Harris outscored the Patriots 11-2 for a 52-29 advantage.   A three-point play by Wattara drew FMU to within 17 points (65-48) with 10:14 on the clock, but that was as close as Francis Marion would get.
