FMU pushes streak to 12 wins with 3-0 victory over Bobcats

CHARLOTTE, NC – Senior Kara Walker posted a team-high 11 kills as Francis Marion University ran its winning streak to 12 matches with a 25-15, 25-22, 25-21 victory over Lees-McRae College, Saturday afternoon (Nov. 2) in Conference Carolinas volleyball action.

Francis Marion is now 14-11 overall and 12-3 in conference play.  The 12-match streak is the longest since a 12-match run in 2021 and equals the sixth longest in program history.  Nine of the wins have come by 3-0 sweeps.

FMU will play at East Division-leading University of Mount Olive on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Sophomore Chaney Barth followed Walker with 10 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while junior Caroline Lucas added eight kills on only 13 swings.

Junior setter Mya Medoza registered 33 assists and served a pair of aces, while junior libero Katie Floyd recorded 10 digs and also served two aces.

Clara Duarte paced Lee-McRae (10-13, 2-10) with 10 kills.

In the opening set, Francis Marion held a narrow 9-8 lead midway through, but used a 7-1 spurt with Mendoza serving to create a cushion and capture the 25-15 win.  The second set featured eight ties and three lead changes.  FMU took the lead for good at 14-13, but the Bobcats stayed close and trailed by only one at 23-22.  A kill by Lucas and a Lees-McRae attacking error accounted for the final two points of the 25-22 win.

The Bobcats led 11-9 midway through the third set, but FMU responded with a 11-1 run with Floyd and junior Andre Delcher both spending time on the serving line.  A kill by freshman Ella Curbow accounted for the final point of the 25-21 victory.
