Patriots fall 1-0 to Crusaders

BELMONT, NC – The Francis Marion University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Belmont Abbey College on Saturday (Oct. 26) night, the team's first loss in Conference Carolinas play this season.

Francis Marion (8-2-4, 7-1-3) will return home to host the University of Mount Olive on Saturday (Nov. 2) for Senior Day and the final regular-season game. Kick-off will take place at 1 p.m.

Junior forward Kristina Syragakis (3) and senior defender JG Garon (3) combined for six of the 10 shots for Francis Marion. Junior forward Tehya Davé chipped in another two shots. Belmont Abbey (9-3-2, 6-2-2) took six shots, with two on frame.

FMU sophomore goalkeeper Erin Grabeel played all 90 minutes in the frame, making one save. For Belmont Abbey, Ryleigh Dougherty (4) and Brianna Sroka (2) split time in goal to make a total of six saves.

The Patriots also took five corner kicks to the Crusaders' four.

Addie Galek scored the game-winning goal for the Crusaders in the 11th minute of the contest, placing her shot into the top right of the goal.

Francis Marion's best scoring opportunity in the second half came with 20:56 remaining when Syragakis' shot in the box curled just outside the left post.

The match included a two-hour weather delay early in the first half.
