Andre Sabino scored on a second-half penalty kick, but an 85th-minute score by the University of Mount Olive left the teams tied 1-1, Wednesday night (Oct. 2) in Conference Carolinas men's soccer play.
Francis Marion (5-1-3, 4-0-1) see its five-game winning streak snapped, but the Patriots are still unbeaten in their last eight matches. FMU will return home to host North Greenville University on Saturday (Oct. 5) at 7 p.m.
The first half was scoreless despite the Patriots dominating possession. FMU outshot the Trojans 10-1 in the opening 45 minutes with UMO's only attempt coming in the final minute from 35 yards out.
The second half saw each squad register eighth shots.
Following a Trojan foul in the box, Sabino gave Francis Marion a 1-0 lead from the penalty spot at 53:14.
The advantage stood until UMO's Kevin Jimenez tallied an unassisted score with 5:38 remaining.
FMU sophomore
Camilo Salazar was wide left on a shot attempt later in the 85th minute and the Trojans had two shots in the final three minutes, including one on goal that FMU goalkeeper
Alberto Aragoneses Lablanca stopped with 35 seconds left.
Aragoneses Lablanca finished with two saves, while Axel Engren made five stops while defending the UMO goal.
Francis Marion led 3-1 in corner kicks.
Sabino and Salazar each recorded five shots, with three of Sabino's attempts being on frame.
