Late Goal from Davé earns draw for FMU

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – Francis Marion University's junior forward Tehya Davé kept the Patriots' unbeaten streak alive at 10 matches with a goal in the final five minutes for a 1-1 road tie with Emmanuel University, Saturday afternoon (Oct. 19) in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action.

Francis Marion (7-1-4, 6-0-3) will travel to Wilson, N.C., to play Barton College on Wednesday (Oct. 23) evening at 4:30 p.m.

While playing all 90 minutes in the frame, FMU sophomore goalkeeper Erin Grabeel tallied three stops, while Emmanuel's A'Leigh Coleman recorded 11 saves.

Francis Marion registered a season-high 31 shots against the Lions, with 12 landing on frame. Junior forward Kristina Syragakis paced the Patriots with seven shots, closely followed by senior forward Ashley Jordan with six shots. Eight other Patriots chipped in at least one shot.

The Patriots held the advantage in corner kicks, taking eight compared to Emmanuel's zero.

Davé earned her goal off a corner kick served in by senior defender JG Garon. After an initial shot by sophomore defender Joy Brockmann deflected off the crossbar, Davé was able to slip her shot past the goalie into the bottom right of the netting for a 1-1 tie.

Davé and Syragakis had attempts to win the match but missed the goal with shots in the 86th and 88th minutes respectively.  Grabeel stopped a late Emmanuel shot with 49 seconds left to preserve the tie.

Ires Tania of Emmanuel scored the lone goal in the first half (26:16) as the Lions (3-8-2, 3-3-2) took an early lead.  It was one of only two shots allowed by the Patriot defense in the opening 45 minutes.

The unbeaten streak is the longest for the Patriots since the 2000 squad posted 12 victories in a row.
