Salazar named Men’s Soccer Freshman of the Month

Francis Marion University midfielder Camilo Salazar has been named the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month (October) for the sport of men's soccer.

The Cali, Colombia, native played in all seven matches and made two starts during the month.  He scored two goals on five shots, including recording the match-winner in a 2-0 home win over the University of Mount Olive on Oct. 11.

He helped FMU register an 11-match unbeaten string that equaled the fourth longest in team history before it was snapped.  His play also enabled the Patriots to allow only seven goals in the seven matches during the month.

Francis Marion owns a 7-3-6 overall record, won the East Division title, and captured the top seed in the Conference Carolina Tournament.

FMU will play in the semifinals on Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. against the Converse University/Emmanuel University (Ga.) winner at the Truist Soccer Complex at Bryan Park in Browns Summit, N.C.

Salazar is majoring in business management and is a product of Colegio Colombo Britanico.

This is the second month in a row the FMU program has snagged this award as defender Steven Boaghe Braniste was named the Freshman of the Month for September.
