YOUNG HARRIS, GA – The Francis Marion University women's soccer team dropped its match against Young Harris College 1-0 on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 21) with an early goal from the Mountain Lions.

FMU (7-4-3, 4-3-3) will return to the pitch on Tuesday (Oct. 24) at UNC Pembroke for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Patriots trail just behind UNCP in the East Division of Conference Carolinas and will be competing for first place in this match-up.

The only goal of the contest was scored in the 11th minute of the contest – a Mountain Lion free kick that was played into the box and headed in by Maya Cramer.

Young Harris outshot the Patriots 10-8 and held an advantage in corner kicks, 5-2. Junior forward
Linsey Downey paced FMU with two shots, placing one on goal. Six other Patriots registered one shot apiece, and four has attempts that were on frame.

Continuing to chase the equalizer goal for the remaining eighty minutes, Downey and junior
JG Garon each fired a shot in the last nine minutes and forced YHC to work on defense despite their early lead.

Makayla Willets recorded five saves in the goal for FMU, while her counterpart McKenna Peaster tallied five of her own. Willets pushed her career total at FMU to 280, only seven shy of Jacque Sutphin's 287 total that is second on the Patriot all-time list.
