FLORENCE, SC – The Francis Marion University women's soccer team tied 0-0 with visiting Lees-McRae College, Saturday (Oct. 14) afternoon in Conference Carolinas women's soccer play.

The Patriots (7-2-3, 4-1-3) will be back in action on Tuesday (Oct. 17) when they host Barton College at 4:30 p.m. The FMU SAAC will be hosting a food drive – as part of a larger conference initiative – during both the men's and women's matches with all proceeds going to the Harvest Hope Food Bank of the Pee Dee. On Saturday, the Patriots celebrated four seniors before the start of the match: defender
Ainara Eizaguirrea, defender
Paula Sanabria, midfielder
Hannah Walsh, and midfielder
Jen Bartlett.

Sanabria recorded the lone shot for the Patriots at the 73:06 mark, a hard-driven ball just wide of the left post.

Although Lees-McRae led in shots, 4-1, Francis Marion led in time of possession 53 percent to 47 percent and in corner kicks, 4-2. Â

Patriot fifth-year goalkeeper
Makayla Willets registered one save en route to her 11th career shutout as a Patriot, while her counterpart Maddie Campo had no saves. Willets recorded her stop in the 17th minute with a diving one-handed save that kept Francis Marion even at 0-0. That was the only shot on frame in the 90 minutes.

This was the seventh scoreless draw in the 29-year history of the Patriot program.
