FMU Men defeat Catawba 6-1

FLORENCE, SC -- The Francis Marion University men's tennis team claimed three hard-fought wins in doubles play and then cruised to a trio of quick singles victories to defeat Catawba College 6-1, Saturday afternoon (Feb. 19) in non-conference action.
 
Francis Marion improves to 3-2 and will play at local-rival Coker College on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
 
FMU earned the doubles point on Saturday with a pair of 6-4 wins by sophomores Liam Day and Leonel Gonzalez at No.1 and freshman Harri Lloyd-Evans and Martin Barbera at No.2.  Sophomore Adam Ernberg and freshman Luis Lopez Sarasa also won their doubles match by a 7-5 count at the No.3 position.
 
In singles play, the Patriots clinched the match as Day was victorious 6-2, 6-0 at No.1, Lloyd-Evans won 6-0, 6-4 at No.2, and Barbera won 6-3, 6-0 at No.4.
 
Lopez Sarasa (6-0, 6-2) and Ernberg (6-1, 6-4) were also winners at spots five and six respectively.
